The following manga
outlines (written by Israfel, edited by
me) aren't meant to be spoiler-packed or exhaustive. They're simply a starting
point for people who want to have a general idea of the main story, and a
reminder for those who know the series already and want to quickly find an
important event. This is really nothing more but I hope the outlines will make
you wish to own your own copy of the manga series. ^_^
Volume 1
01.
Sono na wa Sister Rosette
Rosette and Chrno are 2 exorcist on a night mission at a cargo ship in NY
harbor. They have to confront a monster, but things don't go exactly the way
they planned them...
02.
Keiyaku-mono Chrno
When reporting her observations to the Elder about a bullet used against the
soul-eater, Rosette notices one of his new creations and decides to test it in
spite of the incompletion. This brings mess in the fence of the Order and forces
Chrno to show his strength.
03.
Yami no machi no seiyakyoku
Rosette and Chrno have to find the apostle Azmaria and take her from Ricardo
Hendric's influence. The girl is actually ready to flee and meets Rosette on her
way. But the demon Lerajie won't let them escape, especially after he recognizes
Chrno.
04.
Kokoro no mama ni
To comfort Azmaria, Rosette and Chrno decide to show her a lake that they like a
lot. They have a happy time playing in the water. Chrno explains why Rosette
feels so concerned and she explains to Azmaria she has to be true to herself.
But Lerajie shows up.
05.
Seiden no mitsukai
After Lerajie kidnapped her again, Azmaria discovers the body of Hendric's wife.
She must call the Astral Line to find her lost soul but Lerajie gathers all this
power for himself. When Rosette and Chrno arrive, Lerajie has regained his true
form and challenges Chrno.
06.
Mezame yo toyobu koe
Rosette unseals Chrno's powers to let him defeat Lerajie while she takes care of
Azmaria. She still breaks Lerajie's generators and let Chrno finish the work.
When the battle field explodes, Azmaria defeats her feeling of uselessness and
saves their friends.
Volume 2
07.
Ghost in the watch
There is a ghost in the dorm. An operation is prepared to erase the ghost but
Rosette falls asleep before the beginning of it. When she wakes, she is... in
the air and realizes the ghost is her! The situation turns bad where she's
targeted by her comrades.
08.
Falling Rain
Remington is waiting for Rosette at the station. But when she arrives, the
travelers are hostages in the hands of a mysterious demon who speaks through
their mouths. Rosette and Remington have to be quick and effective to force the
demon to escape.
09.
Hajimari no Jikan
Rosette and Chrno go back to the Seventh Bell orphanage, where their quest was
begun. They revive their first meet and the beginning of the friendship in a
tomb unsealed by Joshua, four years ago, when the siblings wanted to miss one of Remington's visits.
10.
Futari no Sentaku
Still four years ago. After a happy day with Chrno and Rosette, Joshua
unexpectedly decides to follow Remington at the Magdalan Order. But something
worse happens: Aion is there to kidnap Joshua while Chrno and Rosette head to the
boy's rescue.
11.
Futatabi ugokasu tame ni
When Rosette and Chrno arrived at the Seventh Bell orphanage, four years ago,
it was already too late. Disturbed by Chrno's horns, Joshua had already frozen
everything. Rosette convinces Chrno to become her contractor in spite of his
reluctance.
12.
Girl's Step
In spite of the recent events, Rosette can't look for Joshua. She decides to
train herself to help time pass. In the same time, Azmaria decides to be more
courageous and useful so Sister Kate accepts to present the training room,
without knowing it's taken.
13.
Kakenukeru tatsuma
In the training room, Rosette is attacked by a mind eater who previously
attacked Azmaria. Once Azmaria's body is captured, Rosette has to dive into the
girl's mind to give her courage and faith. It's the only way to get rid of the
mind eater.
14.
Boku wa koko ni iru
On a beach of the West Coast, Joshua and Fiore taste a snack when numerous
Pursuers attack them. Joshua is feeling excited so he wants to deal with the
demons alone. After the carnage, Fiore only sees the smallest cut on Joshua's
hand...
Volume 3
15.
New York no Majou
In NY seaport, a sexy fighter precedes Rosette's team. It's Satella Harvenheit,
self-proclaimed "Jewel Witch". Powerful yet careless, she ends up burying
Rosette and her friends under a building. She is surprised to see Chrno
shielding the girls in his true form.
16.
Revenger
Rosette and Satella are rivals once again after a bloody incident. Satella is
confused by Chrno's kind heart while she suspects him to be the hornless demon
who killed her family ten years ago. But the group is trapped by a monster
before she knows.
17.
Shinrai - rely on
Rosette is separated from the others by a magical shield. While she tries to
find the source of the problem, Stella and Chrno fight against dozens of mummies
without their powers. Chrno protects the girls and takes all the wounds. But
Stella waits for his answer.
18.
Utage no ketsui
Rosette's team is invited to rest in Satella's big mansion. They drink wine and
alcohol lets them express their feelings. Rosette scolds Satella for her
hopelessness and the latter is touched by the nun's honesty. So they decide to
go to the West Coast together.
19.
Marionette Train I
Rosette and co. take the train to Chicago. When Rosette helps a young lady, the
latter gives her a bag of cakes where she finds a card of Joshua. The train is
on the spider demon, Rizel's hands. Azmaria and Satella are hurt and she's forced
to target Chrno.
20.
Marionette Train II
While Rosette pretends to shoot Chrno, Azmaria sings her healing chant to
relieve the hostages. But Rizel doesn't give up and fights Rosette on the
train's roof. She hates Joshua but Aion treasures him so she wants Rosette to
calm the boy and please her Lord.
21.
Marionette Train III
Rosette seriously wounds Rizel, who has lost half of her body. But the demon has
an impressive will power and would do any-thing not to fail her mission and
disappoint Aion. But she's scared: apostles are needed but Joshua is a danger
for the Sinners.
Extra.
Doll in the skyscraper
At Thanksgiving, Rosette and Chrno hunt a haunted doll through New York. When
Rosette is ready to shoot the doll, Chrno stops her hand: he senses a living
soul in the creature they face. It's a little girl who just wanted to walk again
after an accident.
Volume 4
22.
Togabito
Exhausted by the recent events, Chrno fell asleep. Rosette looks at him, his
head on her knees and wonders if demons can dream too. It's actually a nightmare
where Chrno hardly resists to Aion's persuasion. But the troubled sleep is
interrupted by Pursuers.
23.
Yami no naka, todoku on
Hidden in a warehouse, Chrno explains the difference between Sinners and
Pursuers but avoids the topic of the "sin" to describe Aion. But the Pursuers
won't let this unknown and reveals that Chrno was at Aion's side when he killed
the demon queen...
24.
Mayoi, futsuite
The Pursuer Kalv happens to be quite powerful and quick in spite of his piggy
look. Rosette has real troubles counter-attacking. Helped by Stella and Chrno,
she can defeat Kalv while Remington and his men unexpectedly shows up to kill
the second pursuer.
25.
Pure Song
Azmaria and Satella have a hard time recovering a magical jewel lost while
fighting the Pursuers. After a good shower, Azmaria listens to the choir. She
starts singing and amazes everyone with her pure voice, even Satella. But
it's time to head San Francisco.
26.
Yoake mae
At Aion's headquarter, there are two newcomers: Genai and Viede. Genai is
particularly mad at Joshua because of Rizel's death but the boy is very weak.
The situation is tense for the Sinners. In the plane to SF, Rosette is worried
but Chrno comforts her.
27.
Carnival night
At San Francisco, the Order of Magdalene needs to strengthen. Rosette and
company get a day off and have fun at a carnival, a photo immortalizing the
moment. Aion is ready to welcome them on this Coast and for the death of
Pandemonium, his dream of freedom.
28.
Hoshizora no shita de
While Reminton and Guilliam face the Sinners, Chrno and Rosette enjoy a moment
together and comfort each other. But Rosette's attention is caught by something.
Chrno follows her and realizes she's now face to face with Joshua, her lost
brother...
Volume 5
29.
Saikai no mayouito
Rosette is shocked that Joshua doesn't recognize her and she holds her gun on
Aion's head. The shot has no effect on him and more than that, Joshua himself is
ready to shoot Rosette. But Chrno intervenes and Joshua unexpectedly shoots this
nuisance.
30.
Samenu akumu mezameru akuma
Chrno is very badly wounded. In his delirium, he mixes Rosette and a mysterious
woman and this awakens his anger. He stands up but unconsciously turns into his
original form to everyone's surprise, while Rosette's lifetime is quickly eaten.
31.
Shakitsukusu habashiiasa
Chrno has completely lost his self-control. Hunting Aion in town, he causes a
lot of damages and ends up attacking Wid. In his blind anger, he hears a voice
ordering to stop the carnage. Aion takes the occasion to stab him and Stella
recognizes her torturer.
32.
Kaikou to betsuri to
Remington and Guilliam intervene to save the situation after their fight with Genai, but Aion is very confident and Fiore happens to be a powerful warrior. In
spite of Satella's efforts, Joshua freezes Azmaria so she can accompany the
Sinners...
33.
Togabito no rakuen
When she wakes up, Azmaria is kindly welcomed by everyone at Aion's side. Yet
she's scared by the discovery of other apostles kept in safety in bubbles. Aion
launches the final step of his plan, calling the Astral Lines and showing his
foes the way to find him.
34.
Ima wa mou hashirenai
After her sudden faint, Rosette wakes and realizes what's happened. She sees
Chrno locked in a special room and is heart-broken. Crushed by her sudden
loneliness, she cries under the Elder's window and discovers Reminton has
demoniac implants!
35.
Sore zore no michi
Rosette is still convalescing. She has a good talk with Remington as well as
with Satella and comforted by them, she decides to stake everything. With the
Elder's help, she dives into Chrno's mind to find out about his bond with Aion
and the Sinners.
Volume 6
36.
Seijou Magdalene
Flashback. Chrno travels with Aion and the Sinners, and a young woman called
Magdalene. She has great powers and has been willingly kidnapped by Chrno
earlier when she was at the Order of Magdalene, in spite of an angry young
priest.
37.
Sugiyuku hibi
Life at Aion's hideout is nice and organized. Magdalene is appreciated by
everyone for her good nature. But while the Sinners discuss about their
betrayal, the head of Pandemonium - that they brought before fleeing - revives
and attacks them.
38.
Hoshi no tsutsumu amata yume
After her fight against Pandemonium, Magdalene is not exactly the same.
Possessed by the demon queen, she provokes Aion. The latter asks Chrno to choose
between their dream and his new born love, who's now a threatening for them.
39.
Kizuna no douhyou
Chrno is unable to kill Magdalene with his own hands and decides to side with
her against Aion. During their short fight, Aion breaks Chrno's horns. Chrno and
Magdalene escape but the demon is so wounded that Magdalene forces him to make a
contract with her.
40.
Kimi to boku no uta
Chrno and Magdalene travel together in the West. During a break, Sheda puts a
pocket watch around Chrno's neck and when Aion attacks Magdalena, he doesn't
realize his power comes from Magdalene's lifetime. Trying to save her, he
actually kills her.
41.
54 years again
After Chrno and Rosette recovered from their trip in painful memories, the
Magdalan Order prepares the attack of Aion's hideout while Pursuers lead by
Duffau set Pandemonium going. Remington drives Rosette and Chrno at Aion's
passage to Eden.
42.
Hiho no chi he
Before letting him go with Rosette, Remington has to test Chrno's determination
and settle his hash. He was the young priest defeated at the Order and witnessed
Magdalena's death 54 years ago. But Rosette convinces him to give up.
Volume 7
43.
Shumatsu no kaimoku beru
Hardly arrived, Rosette and Chrno have to fight with Genai. In the meantime,
Joshua is disturbed by his talk with Rosette at the carnival and tries to
remember his sister's face. Duffau arrives with his Pursuers to get rid of Aion,
who's over-confident.
44.
Hougeki no koushinkyoku
Duffau attacks Aion, who's quickly in a fine mess. Genai and Viede let Rosette
and Chrno go because they better should fight the hordes of Pursuers. Forced to
face the Pursuers too, Chrno and Rosette still succeed in finding where Joshua
and Azmaria are.
45.
Pandemonium no koudou
Under Joshua's lead, the six other apostles are singing to gather astral energy.
Thanks to the apostles, Aion recovers from his wounds and drives Duffau back.
But Pandemonium heads Aion's Eden, destroying cities in the process.
46.
Crusade
Rescued by Stella when the Oratorio falls, Rosette and Chrno witness the arrival
of Pandemonium. The Magdalan Order shows up too and fights the Pursuers under
Sister Kate's lead. They cover the rear so Rosette and company can head to
Aion's Eden.
47.
Ishi no hana
Rosette and Satella are surprised to discover Pandemonium is such a beautiful
place. But Pursuers are on their tracks. Fiore reluctantly leaves Joshua to
protect the place and suddenly, she and Satella meet. Satella let her friends go
and faces her sister.
48.
Gift
Satella and Fiore fight with all their hearts. But Fiore's body is self-healed.
They use their spirits but disturbed by the uselessness of her 10-years
wandering, Satella is defeated. Yet she can't give up her sister. In the
meantime, Rosette and Chrno have to slit up.
Extra.
Anothers Elizabeth 1921
Rosette just arrived at the Order of Magdalene, where she's bullied by the other
novices. The reasonable Elizabeth decides to give her a hand but she doesn't
understand Rosette and Chrno's friendship at all. Until all three are attacked
by a demon...
Volume 8
49.
The only neat thing to do
To allow Chrno to fight at his full strength, Rosette unseals his powers yet she
faints. When Chrno succeeds in opening the gate between them, she has
disappeared. Rosette remembers a promise made to Joshua and wakes up in her
brother's arms.
50.
Ketsudan no Jousou
There's still a big misunderstanding between Rosette and Joshua. Rosette has to
fight her beloved brother and both aim a gun at each other. Thanks to a trick,
Rosette succeeds in having the advantage and has no choice but to shoot Joshua.
51.
Kimi ga shiawase dearu youni
By shooting Joshua, Rosette succeeds in breaking one of his (Chrno's) horns.
Relieved, he remembers their childhood promise (staying together) and both head
to where Chrno is. Rosette gives him his lost horns but she faints. Chrno can't
awake her: she's dead.
52.
Renki wo koete
Joshua realizes he lost his sister again and broken Chrno lets him hit him. But
he doesn't forgive Aion and to the latter's surprise, stands up to fight him.
Azmaria intervenes: everything is not lost for Rosette yet. Outside, the Order
has serious problems.
53.
Count down
If it's like in the incident of the pocket watch, Rosette may not be dead
(act.7). While Azmaria and Joshua bring Rosette to the Oratorio, Chrno fights
Aion. The latter has Pandemonium's head: what if the queen targeted Rosette like
Magdalena 50 years ago?
54.
Taisetsuna mono
Aion intervenes to stop Azmaria's spell but Chrno doesn't let him a single
second. The four other apostles join her and Joshua. But Pandemonium reacts to
the Astral and notices Rosette's "empty" body. The queen dives into Rosette, and
nobody can stop her...
55.
Tsui no katana, yuki iru no kimi
Rosette is travelling in a train of souls, in a rather confined and depressive
atmosphere. She tries to convince herself that everything is fine now, but she
remembers Chrno and realizes she wants to see him again. Helped by Magdalene's
disintegrating soul, she revives and shoots Aion.
56.
Kimi no iru mirai
Rosette is back from the dead and in spite of her wounds, she's determined to
finish her work with Chrno at her side. But Chrno freezes her; after kissing her
and making a promise, he disappears to fight Aion one last time...
57. Epilogue
Several years have passed since the events in chapter 56. Life goes on in the
Seventh Bell Orphanage, where Rosette is living happily among the people she
loves. Something unexpected happens, and she cries in happiness...
