CDIII:
Hajimari no Jikan ("The
time of the beginning")
Track 1:
This story is based on the “Train Station incident” of the second volume
of the manga. Remington is waiting for somebody at the train station when
a small girl sits next to him and gives him a “present”. When he opens the
package, Remington finds a picture of Joshua. He then asks the girl about
the picture, and the girl, who was being manipulated by a mysterious
female demon, tells him to call Rosette or she would kill every human
being in the train station. Remington is then forced to obey her.
Meanwhile, Rosette, Chrno and Azmaria are in the convent’s car after
buying some groceries. Rosette is singing something, and Chrno tells
Azmaria that Rosette and her brother used to sing that song when they were
kids. Azmaria then asks about Rosette’s brother, but Rosette was just
about to answer, when she nearly crashes the car. Chrno angrily scolds
Rosette for her absentmindness, but then the phone rings. Chrno answers and
tells Rosette that Remington was looking for her. Rosette happily answers
the phone and then speeds up in the convent’s car to pick Remington at the
train station. Then, tired of waiting for him, she gets off the car and
runs inside the building. Chrno gets very jealous and Azmaria teases him
about it. Rosette then falls right into the trap...
Track 2:
Remington asks Sister Kate about Rosette, and she tells him that she went
with Chrno to the place where everything started for them. Rosette, Chrno
and Azmaria visit the Seventh Bell Orphanage and Chrno tells Azmaria that
the place was frozen in time 4 years ago. Rosette and Chrno then start to
explain what happened...
Flashback: Rosette was chasing some
of the kids of the orphanage after they got some laundry dirty, but she
stopped when her younger brother Joshua pretended to be hit by her. Joshua
laughed at her worried face, and Rosette was angry, but she forgot her
anger when he started coughing. Joshua was a very weak boy, and he begged
her to let him be outside for a while longer. Rosette then decided to
escape with him to the forest for a while until Remington, a minister from
the Magdalan Order went away. They had a small accident, and Joshua cured
Rosette using the supernatural powers he had. Rosette promised Joshua that
she would always protect him, and they started to wander inside the
underground passage they had found, until they stumbled upon a big door,
which had some mysterious inscriptions. The door suddenly opened and they
went inside. Then they heard a voice and found Chrno, who told them that
he was a demon…

Track 3:
Neither Rosette nor Joshua were scared of Chrno, and Joshua
was actually delighted, asking him if he was for real. Chrno, however, was
very weak due to the lack of Astral energy, and Rosette, thinking that he
was angry, took pity on him and offered him something to eat. Back to the
present: Rosette and Chrno remember their first impression of each other,
and continue to tell Azmaria what happened afterwards. Flashback: Rosette
and Joshua visit Chrno at the forest, and ask him to tell them more
stories. Chrno then told them about the Astral Line, an invisible river of
souls that was the source of life of every living thing in the universe.
Joshua then told Chrno that Rosette and him wanted to be explorers, and
that they would discover the Astral Line and become famous. Then he fell
asleep, and Rosette told Chrno about Joshua’s illness and said that she
wanted to become a doctor so she could cure him. That night, Joshua got
very sick, and asked Remington to please take him to the Magdalan Order so
he could be strong. Remington told him that he would take him in the
morning, when he felt a little better. Rosette was very worried about
Joshua and wanted to see him, but he refused, and Remington informed her
about Joshua’s decision of coming with him. Rosette then ran away from the
orphanage and went to see Chrno, crying. Chrno comforted her, telling that
Joshua really loved her, and that she could speak with him on the morning.
Rosette felt a lot better, but just then, Aion spoke to Chrno and made an
offer to him: forgetting the past and returning his horns if Chrno decided
to rejoin him and his former allies, called “The Sinners”. Aion explained
to Rosette that demons needed their horns to absorb the energy of the
Astral Line, the source of their powers, and that he had broken Chrno’s
horns many years ago. Chrno refused his offer, but Aion said that he had
found somebody else that could use the horns: Joshua. To Rosette’s
surprise, Chrno then recovered his real form, a young man with huge wings,
and quickly rushed Rosette back to the orphanage. By then, Joshua,
overwhelmed by the power of Chrno’s horns, had turned everybody around him
into stone. Rosette tried to reason with him, but Chrno, seeing her in
danger, immediately took her away to a safe place.
Joshua was kidnapped by Aion and
Rosette asked Chrno for his help in order to rescue him and the people at
the orphanage who had been “frozen”. Chrno, however, was very low in
Astral energy, and was unable to do anything for them, unless he found
somebody willing to make a contract with him. Rosette then asked Chrno
what a contract was, he told her that hornless demons such as him needed
an alternative source of energy, which was the remaining lifetime of a
person. The person’s life would be reduced every time the demon used its
powers, and he or she would suffer terribly. If Rosette wanted to make a
contract with Chrno, she would be in constant pain and would only live for
a short amount of time. Would she be able to bear with it? Rosette said
that she wanted to make Joshua’s dream come true, and begged Chrno to make
a contract with her. Chrno, moved by Rosette’s determination, agreed...
Back to the present: Rosette tells a very remorseful Chrno that they now
had everything in their favor, and that they could make the time that was
frozen to move again...

goes inside the house to prepare some coffee, and when she goes back to
Joshua, he has already killed most of the Pursuers. One of them wonders at
his power, but Joshua just finishes him without a second thought. Then

is on the way to San Francisco, “hears” his voice in her head and also
